![]() What I really want to do is speed up my system and I thought that my system may not be running as efficient as possible or taking full advantage of my SSD if it is constantly accessing my HDD. All my apps and software are installed to the c: drive SSD so that's why I'm confused about the read/write sound. Select HDD and change settings for APM under APM section between Min Power and Performance. You have to download Standard Edition, then go to Function -> Advanced Feature -> AAM/APM Control. Windows Power Management will not help, it's HDD APM settings. If I switch programs, say going from browsing on chrome, to MS Word then the system will take several seconds, sometimes up to 30-45 seconds to switch and during that time I will hear the HDD going. To prevent HDD from spinning down on my laptop I use CrystalDiskInfo. I will add that the system lags even more after it has come back from sleep mode, it only runs at an acceptable speed on a fresh start. Makes sure that a selected drive does not go to sleep unexpectedly. Let me clarify that it's not the noise that bothers me, it's the system lag while the read/write noise is going. I checked and both the browser and system download locations are either set to the c: drive or "ask" so I don't believe that's the issue unless some background app is constantly writing to the HDD instead of my main drive SSD. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and for the suggestion. ![]() Business PCs, Workstations and Point of Sale Systems. ![]()
